In 1981, director P K Joseph cast the two relative newcomers together in Oothikaachiya Ponnu with Mammootty playing hero to Lal's villain. That casting trend continued in hits like Ahimsa and Enthino Pookunna Pookal. Shankar was in the lead and Mammootty outshined in this movie as Thoman Kutty.
It was a hit movie and all has equal importance in their respective roles. It was one of the major hit of P K Joseph in 1982.
